SCAN's History & Evolution

Our Organization

Since 1974, when Charlotte Salinger and 10 concerned volunteer citizens formed the organization, SCAN’s primary mission has remained unchanged – to eliminate child abuse and neglect in northeast Indiana through family services, education and community partnerships. In the past 38 years, we have helped prepare parents and protect children through a number of effective and efficient services involving education, abuse detection, crisis intervention, in-home parental mentoring and training, supervised visitation, and family support. Currently we employ 146 staff.

Our Region

SCAN offers services to 18 counties in northern Indiana. Our main office is in Fort Wayne on Main Street. We have four satellite offices, one on Beacon Street in Fort Wayne , one in Warsaw, Indiana, one in Logansport, Indiana, and one in Wabash, Indiana.
