Who will hear the cries of pain from a child who has been burned, broken and bruised from physical abuse? Or who will see the hurt in the eyes of a child who is going to school hungry, dirty and ashamed because they are being neglected? None of us want any child to hurt ever again. SCAN can stop this childhood suffering with your help.

Give Financially

Each day, SCAN extends the hand of hope and support to some of our community's most vulnerable families. Families in which mom and dad have abused and neglected their sons and daughters. Families that turn to us to learn how to end the violence in their lives so they can be safe and nurturing for their little ones.

You can donate by using this form online, or by contacting our main office by phone at (260) 421-5000.

With your help children will build the skills they need to cope with change and adversity caused by child abuse. We can give parents the tools they need to care for their children with love instead of abuse and neglect.

Special Giving Opportunity

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) offers up to $2.5 million in Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) Tax Credits annually for distribution by 501(C) 3 not-for-profit corporations. These organizations use NAP Tax Credits as an incentive to help leverage more contributions from individuals and businesses for certain neighborhood-based programs and projects. By contributing to SCAN and utilizing our NAP Credits you can reduce your tax liability to the State of Indiana.

This year, SCAN has received tax credits for our Be SomeOne Now program, where our staff work with teens and young adults ages 16-24 to provide job training and support in earning their High School Equivalency Diploma. Be SomeOne Now provides onsite support for employment and educational opportunities, as well as assistance with resume development, job interview preparation, and access to higher education opportunities. Our goal is to help these young adults secure stable employment.

Be SomeOne now supports SCAN's mission to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing at-risk youth with the foundation they need to build a successful future. Not only do these tax credits aid us in our fight to Stop Child Abuse and Neglect, but they also allow you the opportunity to reduce your state tax liability by 50 percent of your donation. NAP credits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Mandy Drakeford at 260-421-5000 ext 2318 to purchase credits.

How do NAP credits work?

When you contribute to SCAN through this NAP program you receive 50% of your donation in the form of NAP credits, which can then be deducted from your state tax liability. SCAN is offering donors between $200 and $22,798 in NAP credit contributions. As an example, a donation to SCAN through this program of $3,000 would give the donor a credit of $1,500 off of their state tax liability.

Eligible donors include any person, business, or organization that has an Indiana income tax liability.

Donors can make contributions over a period of time as long as it is in the same calendar year and credits are still available. The process is very simple:

  1. Make a donation to SCAN. The minimum donation is $100; the maximum is $30,000.
  2. The attached forms must be completed and signed: an Indiana state NC-10 form and a Donor Acknowledgement Form. You can fill out these forms and mail them with your contribution to:
    SCAN NAP Credits
    c/o Resource Development
    500 W. Main Street

    Or, purchase by phone: (260) 421-5000 x2237

How do I reduce my tax obligation on my tax forms?

First, have your tax preparer prepare your Federal taxes as normal. Be sure to give your tax preparer your donation letter from SCAN for the contribution to claim the charitable contribution allowed by Federal guidelines for the tax year filed. Secondly, you will receive from the Indiana Department of Revenue an NC-20 form, which you will give to your tax preparer to utilize and claim your tax credit from the State. This credit will be fifty percent (50%) of the amount you donated to SCAN. Your tax preparer will use this credit to reduce your tax liability to the State.

For questions regarding NAP Credits, please contact Mandy Drakeford at 260-421-5000 x2318 or [email protected].
