Putting In The Work

After battling with addiction, Jamie and his wife, Sadie, found their son, Oliver, removed from their home as they were not able to provide a safe home environment for him. They both realized they needed to make changes for the sake of their son and Jamie took that to heart. The couple enrolled themselves into services before the Department of Child Services recommended any and invested their own money to put themselves through rehab.

Jamie began working with SCAN’s Fatherhood Engagement to help with his progress toward being reunited with Oliver. Jamie shared his experiences with his Fatherhood Engagement worker. He approached this potentially difficult conversation bluntly, being honest and taking accountability for his shortcomings in order to figure out a gameplan to turn his situation around to create a safer home environment for his son.

After Jamie started his work with Fatherhood Engagement, he and Sadie were finally able to see Oliver after six months. This reconnection with his son served as a benchmark for Jamie to begin seeing his hard work pay off. Jamie tended to any service requested him, completed multiple cases and attended every single supervised visit with his son. Even when dealing with other familial drama outside of his control, Jamie has maintained his focus and positive attitude.

Jamie showed through his actions that he understands the commitment and work he’ll continue to need to do. He has old demons from battling addiction, but Jamie found that being able to be candid with his Fatherhood Engagement worker in a safe space, to discuss both the positives and negatives, has been cathartic and helped empower his own confidence in himself.
