Community Services at SCAN

SCAN's Community Services exist to connect children and families to resources in our community. We work to support caregivers in creating safe, stable home environments by connecting them with partner agencies, sharing helpful information, or problem solving to meet their needs.

We know parenting is one of life's hardest jobs. Our experienced staff members walk alongside children and families through the following programs.

Counseling Services

SCAN's Family Connections program offers a fully comprehensive counseling program for families in Allen County. We take Medicaid, Insurance and DCS-supported payments, as well as self-pay. For adults and children, this service empowers individuals to accomplish their mental health goals and create lasting safety and stability.

Daybreak Crisis Homes
For nearly 40 years, Daybreak Crisis Homes have given distraught parents a place to go when they face a situation in which they are temporarily unable to provide a secure home environment for their children. For four hours up to seven days, children can stay in short-term foster care through Daybreak. Many parents use this service during the birth of another child, a housing crisis or a mental health issue.

Healthy Families
New parents often need reassurance and support. Healthy Families, a voluntary program, assigns a Home Visitor to qualifying new families from 28 weeks pregnant up to 12 weeks after a baby is born. This Home Visitor will then spend up to three years working with the family. They help track developmental goals, coach parents in nurturing their child and encourage the family to make stable, positive decisions.

High Conflict Services

Conflict is hard for everyone. SCAN's Family Connections is ready to support you as you navigate safety and peace in your home. We offer individual and family counseling, victim support, co-parenting classes, supervised visitation services, and Batterers Intervention to help your family navigate and resolve conflict.

Local Prevention Partnerships

No one agency can carry the work of child welfare in the community. As a Community Partners provider for the State of Indiana, we use data to establish the most pressing needs of children in the counties we serve and actively seek to partner with and fund nonprofit organizations who specifically address these needs.

Parenting Classes

Our Parenting Classes are available in the Fort Wayne area and help give families the tools they need to build and maintain healthy relationships for a more positive future together.

PCA Councils

Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Councils bring together leaders in our community to act as a voice for families and children to make sure their needs are met. By involving leaders from social work, education, government agencies, health care, community resources such as food pantries, business and nonprofits, PCA Councils are able to hear from every viewpoint in a community to better protect children and set communities up for success.
Whether it is making connections between resources, working together to develop solutions or creating events that highlight the work the community is doing to prevent child abuse, PCA Council members are helping to create a safer and brighter future for families.

Prevention Education
Did you know SCAN provides free education to schools, churches and community organizations? SCAN’s Prevention Coordinators train children, ages three through 18, as well as adults on indicators of child abuse and neglect, body safety, bullying and more. SCAN's training meets Erin's Law requirements in the State of Indiana.

Prevention Framework

SCAN is proud to be a pilot agency in implementing the Indiana Supportive Communities, Resilient Families, Thriving Children framework. The purpose of this framework is to create a statewide approach to achieve the vision that all children thrive in safe, stable, nurturing and supportive families and communities that foster resilience and well-being.
This framework provides a road map for the state of Indiana and local communities to bring together a cross-sector group of partners to better support, empower and protect families. Centered primarily on prevention efforts, this toolkit is a resource to support local communities and leaders in implementing the framework and preventing child abuse and neglect.
This framework and toolkit will help communities increase the effectiveness, alignment and coordination of existing child maltreatment prevention efforts and identify new opportunities to support the resilience and well-being of all children and families in our community.
